(Return to Latest Wachtelhund Import)

Jacob von der Sägenschmiede

Jacob, called Jake, arrived April 14th, 2005, for Jim Jones of Brunswick, Georgia.  Jake was only here one week before he was used to find a wounded turkey.  This is Jim's first impression his pup and his story.

Jim manages two plantation, totaling 11,000 acres, mainly as a hunting preserve.  Jim has kept Jake with him all the time since his arrival, even while working in his air condition grader.  Jim is amazed that Jake is so clam and shows no reaction to loud equipment or noises.

Jim has had and bred many hunting dogs over the years.  After having Jake for one day, Jim called to tell me, Jake was the smartest dog he had ever seen and recanted stories about Jake.  I laughed and told him I had numerous people who bought Wachtelhund pups from me over the years tell me the same thing after having the pups for a short time.  Although, he was the first to do so after having Jake only for one day!!

Jim called early Wednesday morning, April 20th to tell me what he thought was an incredible story.  He was out turkey hunting and had Jake with him.  As a turkey came in, Jake saw it and started growling.  Jim shot and wounded the turkey and it took off into to the thick Georgia woods.  Although this was a critical moment for Jake, he showed no adverse reaction to the sound of the shotgun blast.  Jim found the spot where he shot it, feathers and a little blood, but no turkey!!  Jim let Jake smell the feathers and blood and off went Jake following the blood and scent trail as fast as an eleven week old pup could go.  Jake took Jim eighty yards to the dead turkey.  Jake grabbed the turkey by the neck and started dragging it around.  Jim was amazed and said he never would have found that turkey without Jake.  Jim asked me, "how an eleven week old pup who had never seen a turkey knew how to do that".  I told Jim, Jake was a Wachtelhund and it was in their blood, and this was only the beginning of impressive achievements that Jim would come to experience with his new Wachtelhund partner.
